LET ME ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ THE FOLLOWING LETTER DATED SEPTEMBER 14th FROM ANN   BROWN   ASHCRAFT'S DAUGHTER ABOUT AN OUTREACH PROJECT WHICH WILL CELEBRATE ANN'S LIFE....

DEAR FRIENDS AND FAMILY,
OCTOBER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, THAT IS OUR BELOVED ANN'S BIRTHDAY MONTH. WE WOULD LIKE TO DO SOMETHING POSITIVE TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE AND HELP US FOCUS ON HELPING OTHERS AS SHE SO OFTEN DID. ONE OF HER FAVORITE PASTIMES WAS READING; SHE COULD ALWAYS BE FOUND WITH A GOOD BOOK TO SHARE. ANN TRULY ENJOYED TUTORING AND GIVING INSIGHT INTO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE WRITTEN WORD. HER GREAT JOY WAS WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND INSPIRING THEM TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN LOVE OF BOOKS.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WE WILL BE PARTNERING WITH THE FORREST SPENCE FUND TO COLLECT CHILDREN'S BOOKS. EACH BOOK WILL HAVE A DEDICATION LABEL PLACED ON THE INSIDE COVER PAGE THAT WILL READ: 'GIVEN IN CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF ANN ASHCRAFT'.
THE FORREST SPENCE FUND IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DESIGNED TO ASSIST WITH THE NON-MEDICAL NEEDS OF THE CRITICALLY, OR CHRONICALLY, ILL CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH THIS ORGANIZATION FROM THE GROUND UP AND HAVE SEEN THE IMPACT IT CAN HAVE ON A FAMILY'S LIFE. I WILL ATTACH A LINK FOR YOU TO GO TO FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE FUND. THE BOOKS WE COLLECT WILL BE GIVEN OUT AT LE BONHEUR CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. THEY WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE 'CARE BAGS', WHICH ARE DESCRIBED ON THEIR WEBSITE. I PERSONALLY DELIVER THE 'CARE BAGS' AND GET TO SEE THE BOOKS IN ACTION. IT IS VERY HEARTWARMING TO SEE A PARENT OR GRANDPARENT READING TO THEIR BABY OR CHILD WHILE THEY ARE AT LE BONHEUR. SOMETIMES, IT IS THE ONLY SENSE OF 'NORMALCY' THEY MAY HAVE AND SOMETHING THEY CAN PHYSICALLY DO FOR THEIR LOVED ONE.
I HAVE HAD FUN REMINISCING WITH BETSY, DAD, GREG AND BRENT, ON FAVORITE CHILDHOOD BOOKS, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT ANN GAVE US, OR READ TO US. WE HAVE FOUND IT TO BE A POSITIVE WAY TO CHANNEL OUR GRIEF AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO PURCHASING BOOKS THAT HAVE SPECIAL MEANING FOR US TO GO IN THE 'CARE BAGS'.
WE WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND THE OPPORTUNITY TO YOU TO PARTICIPATE, BY DONATING YOUR FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOKS STARTING NOW THROUGH THE MONTH OF OCTOBER. YOU MAY ORDER YOUR BOOKS OFF AMAZON AND SHIP THEM TO ME (RUTH MUNDAY, P.O. BOX 444, HORN LAKE 38637), OR I CAN COME AND PICK THEM UP FROM THOSE IN THE LOCAL AREA. OUR GOAL IS TO COLLECT AS MANY BOOKS AS WE CAN FOR THE AGE RANGE OF 0 - 18 YEARS, TO HELP SUPPORT THE 'CARE BAG' MINISTRY. I KNOW ANN WOULD BE PLEASED TO HAVE SUCH AN OUTPOURING OF LOVE SHOWN BY GIVING BOOKS TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. IT BRINGS A SMILE TO OUR FACES, AND WE HOPE TO YOURS TOO, BY CONTINUING ANN'S LEGACY.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORREST SPENCE FUND, AND THE 'CARE BAGS' PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ME, OR VISIT THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE BY CLICKING THE LINKS BELOW.
WITH LOVE, RUTH ASHCRAFT MUNDAY ON BEHALF OF LEE ASHCRAFT...BETSY ASHCRAFT WALKER...GREG MUNDAY... AND BRENT WALKER.

THERE IS NOW A NEW PAGE NOTED IN THE ABOVE LINK AS.....'IN MEMORY'.... WHICH WILL PROVIDE AN ALPHABETICAL LISTING OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN A PART OF THE HORN LAKE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE, BUT WHOSE 'EAGLE'S WINGS' HAVE TAKEN THEM BEYOND THE BONDS OF THIS EARTH.....THE NAMES HAVE COME FROM THE NEWSLETTERS SINCE THE FIRST EDITION IN 2003, AND FROM LOCAL NEWSPAPER OBITUARIES THAT I HAVE NOTED OVER THE YEARS....IT WILL NOT BE AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST, BUT WILL ENABLE US TO REFLECT ON, AND GIVE THANKS FOR, THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE US.....

I HAD A RECENT VISIT WITH THE HLHS PRINCIPAL, ANDY ORR. DURING OUR TIME TOGETHER HE VIEWED OUR HORN LAKE EAGLE NEWS WEBSITE AND ASKED IF HE COULD LINK IT TO THE SCHOOL'S WEBSITE, WHICH HE CAN, AND WILL DO, SHORTLY. HE LOVES HIS ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES THERE...HAS A REAL PASSION FOR THE SCHOOL....
HE THEN TOLD ME ABOUT  HORN LAKE TV  WHICH IS BASICALLY A TV STATION WITHIN THE SCHOOL,  RUN BY STUDENTS,  AND, OF COURSE,  MONITORED BY THE ADMINISTRATION (FOR THOSE OF US IN THE CLASS OF '58, CAN YOU IMAGINE A VIDEO CAMERA IN THE HANDS OF....SAY....BOBBY GILBERT WHERE HE COULD HAVE CHANNELED ALL OF HIS CREATIVITY?)....ANYWAY, THEY 'BROADCAST' THEIR PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL.....YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT (AND NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT) THAT IT REVEALS THE HIGH QUALITY OF STUDENTS WHICH STILL WALK THE HALLS OF OUR GREAT SCHOOL!......('CLICK' ON THE LINK BELOW AND 'CLICK' THE 'RETURN ARROW' IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER TO GET BACK TO THIS WEBSITE.)
