FIRST FRIDAYS HALL OF FAME NEW BETHLEHEM WHERE WE LIVE YEAR BOOKS

IN MEMORY

Dear Family, Friends and DeSoto County Community,

We are thankful for all of you who participated in the book drive last year! The number of books donated was well beyond our expectations! We are very grateful for your support!

The project was such a success last year with the help of family, friends, churches, and DeSoto County schools. We were able to provide 2,098 books to the Forrest Spence Fund to use for their ministry to help chronically ill and hospitalized children! The final book count was amazing and quite the testimony to the impact Ann’s life continues to have here on earth. We know Ann would have been touched to have so many children and families blessed with books to lift their spirits during difficult days. As you may remember, Ann’s great joy was working with children and inspiring them to develop their own love of books.

We are pleased to let you know that we will be partnering with the Forrest Spence Fund again to collect children’s books to celebrate Ann’s October birthday in 2019. Each book will have a dedication label placed on the inside cover page that will read:

“Given in celebration of the life of Ann Brown Ashcraft”

The Forrest Spence Fund is a non-profit organization designed to assist with the non-medical needs of critically or chronically ill children and their families. I have been involved with this organization from the ground up and have seen the impact it can have on a family’s life. I will attach a link for you to go to for more information on the Forrest Spence Fund. The books we collect will be given out at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. They will be included in the Care Bags, which are described on the website. I personally deliver the Care bags and will get to see the books in action. It is very heartwarming to see a parent or grandparent reading to their baby or child while they are at Le Bonheur. Sometimes, it is the only sense of “normalcy” they may have and something they can physically do for their loved one.

The greatest needs are books for the younger age range of 0-4 years. We use about 50 books a month, primarily in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is such a sweet gift, as there are many wonderful selections that help promote parent-child bonding and exposure to reading from the earliest days of life. Due to the critical health issues of our tiniest patients, donations of new books are preferred.

We would again like to extend the opportunity to you to participate, by donating your favorite new or very gently used children’s books, starting now through the month of October. You may order your books on-line and ship them to me or drop them at one of our three community book collection sites, for those in the local area. Please kindly include your name with your donation. We received several packages last year without a name, which means we do not know who to thank. Our goal is to collect as many books as we can for the age range of 0-18 years, to help support the Care Bag ministry.
