"HAPPY NEW YEAR! AND MAY   2022   BE FILLED WITH GOD'S BEST TO EACH OF YOU!"

FOR YOUR NEW YEAR, THERE IS THIS.......
(Author Unknown)

I am the new year. I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living. I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned about life during the last twelve months.
All that you sought and didn't find is hidden in me, waiting for you to search for it, but with more determination.
All the good that you tried for, and didn't achieve, is mine to grant when you have fewer conflicting desires.
All that you dreamed but didn't dare to do; all that you hoped but did not will; all the faith that you claimed but did not have---these slumber slightly, waiting to be awakened by the touch of strong purpose.

I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance to Him who said,
"Behold, I make all things new."
(The Revelation of St. John 21:5)

MOVING INTO A NEW YEAR

So, here we are moving on, leaving the old behind us and looking forward to a better place and a better space in time. But, what follows is a cautionary word about this thing of moving into the new year.
Since 1964, at the beginning of my married life, and throughout my twelve years in banking and thirty-one years as a pastor, I have moved and changed physical houses eleven times. And, you know what? In all those moves never once did I move my garbage! Wisely, I left it all behind. Now, I may have moved a lot of stuff that was not essential, but in my mind was still in the stage of possible use. (OK, I am a pack rat! LOL)
Major point being that I never once moved garbage or trash! That would be picked up by faithful sanitation workers. So, here’s the deal: Please don’t move any garbage with you into your new year. Determine to be wise enough to leave behind (repeat the words LEAVE BEHIND)

***letting first impressions of folks be the only and the lasting impression you hold of a person
***a judgmental or critical attitude
***listening in order to give a retort, rather than listening to learn, to understand with respect
***self-condemnation
***feelings of guilt over failures long past
***the need to BE RIGHT in your opinions and in your discussions with others
***reliance on your own strengths or abilities only (there is One who is wiser)
***un-forgiveness and grudges, no more blaming and shaming

Well, you get the picture.

The great, good news is that there is one who can, and will, take care of all our GARBAGE OR TRASH from the past. His desire is to do that for us. He will enable us to leave all this behind. In fact He will bury it in the deepest figurative sea, and will remember it no more! He is also able to keep us from accumulating and holding on to more garbage in 2022!
He just wants our invitation to come and do for us all that we find so hard, seemly impossible to do for ourselves. The One who can do all of this and more is Jesus the Christ of God.

*****DECEMBER 5, 2021*****IN A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT NAKOBE RECENTLY RECIEVED THE "DICK BUTKUS AWARD' AS THE NATION'S NUMBER 1 LINEBACKER IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.....AND, TAKE NOTE OF THIS....NAKOBE IS ONLY THE THIRD PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THIS AWARD TO RECEIVE THE HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENT.....

PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE FROM "THE DESOTO TIMES TRIBUNE" ABOUT AN OUTSTANDING YOUNG MAN AND ATHLETE....NAKOBE DEAN, WHO IS NOW STARRING AT THE UNIV. OF GEORGIA....AND TAKE NOTICE OF HIS GRADE POINT AVERAGE IN ENGINEERING...
Nakobe Dean doesn’t get to visit his home town much anymore. The junior linebacker is now leading the defense of the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs and is a prospect on the rise for the 2022 NFL Draft. But when he walked inside Horn Lake High School on Friday, it felt like he had never left. “Every time I do come back, I get nostalgic,” Dean said. “It’s been four years, but it brings back good memories. We had coaches we could look up to. It’s the same old Horn Lake though.”
Dean returned to his alma mater to present a check for $10,000 to Hope Community Center, Inc as part of the 2021 Allstate Good Works Team. He is one of 22 players - and one of four players from the Southeast Conference (SEC) - to be nominated. The American Football Coaches Association recognizes a select group of players each year based on their commitment to serving their communities.
Dean has given his time to “Dawgs for Pups,” which raised $200,000 to help local youth in the Athens/Clarke County area; visited Camp Sunshine, which provides recreational, educational, and support programs for children with cancer; led an effort that raised $100,000 for Wi-Fi hotspots; served on a team that collected 27,000 pounds of food for the Northeast Georgia Food Bank; participated in Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer Golf Tournament; collected 437 new and gently used coats for the Boys & Girls Club of Athens; and read to students as part of Read Across America.
Dean said it means a lot to him to be able to give back to Horn Lake. The Hope Community Center, Inc. of North Mississippi provides a variety of safe, fun, and exciting after school activities and events for youth of all ages. “Giving back is in my blood,” Dean said. “My mother had me giving back since I was growing up. We did this day called The 12 Days of Christmas where we did 12 Days of Service leading up to Christmas. So giving back is in my blood and continues to stay with me.”
Dean has a 3.53 GPA in mechanical engineering in the classroom. On the field, so far this season he has 30 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one interception, and is on the watch list for the Butkus Award given to college football’s most outstanding linebacker. He was Georgia’s leading tackler in 2020 with 71 stops, which was 19 more than the next closest Bulldog defender, with 1.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and four quarterback hurries. As a freshman in 2019, Dean had 25 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Horn Lake Football Head Coach Mitchell Harville, who first coached Dean in seventh and eighth grade, said he is pleased to see Dean excelling at such a high level at Georgia. “It’s been exciting watching him his entire time with Georgia," Harville said. "From the time he got there as a freshman. He walked in there and he has been able to do so much.”
At Horn Lake, Dean was part of the team that won the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 6A state football championship and was the recipient of the Dick Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker in 2018. He was also named Mississippi Mr. 6A Football, and played in the Under Armour All-American Football Game.
Dean said he still follows the Eagles and will be on the sidelines tonight as they take on the Hernando Tigers in Hernando. “I will be rooting them on,” Dean said. “One of the things our class talked about leaving here was we wanted to leave a legacy. I will never forget where I came from - North Mississippi and Horn Lake.”
