IN MEMORY

Dear Family, Friends and DeSoto County Community, October 2022

Despite the pandemic, the 'Ann's Heart for Books' project was a success last year with the help of family, friends, churches, DeSoto County schools, and our partner, Lindsey Grace Darby, with Usborne Books and More. We were able to provide over 872 books to the Forrest Spence Fund! We know Ann would have been touched to have so many children and families blessed with books to lift their spirits during difficult days. As you may remember, Ann's great joy was working with children and inspiring them to develop their own love of books.

We are pleased to let you know that we will be collaborating with the Forrest Spence Fund again to collect children’s books to celebrate Ann’s October birthday in 2022.

The Forrest Spence Fund is a non-profit organization designed to assist with the non-medical needs of critically or chronically ill children and their families. I have been involved with this organization from the ground up and have seen the impact it can have on a family’s life. The books we collect will be given out at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. They will be included in the Care Bags, which are described on the Forrest Spence Fund website. It is very heartwarming to see a parent or grandparent reading to their baby or child while they are at Le Bonheur. Sometimes, it is the only sense of “normalcy” they may have and something they can physically do for their loved one. The greatest needs are books for the younger age range of 0-4 years. It is such a sweet gift, as there are many wonderful selections that help promote parent-child bonding and exposure to reading from the earliest days of life. With COVID-19 hospital visiting restrictions in place, books have become even more important as a resource for families feeling isolated.

We would again like to extend the opportunity to you to participate, by donating your favorite books, starting now through the month of October. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, we can only take NEW books this year. You may order your books on-line and ship them to me or drop them at one of our three community book collection sites, for those in the local area. Please kindly include your name with your donation.

As another option, Lindsey Grace Darby, with Usborne Books & More, is hosting an electronic book drive for Ann’s Heart for Books, to make it easy for you to shop and select books! You may also shop for books for your own family, and when you shop through the given link, Usborne Books & More will donate 50% of your purchase price back in free books to our book drive. In addition, if you simply wish to make a monetary donation, it will be matched by Usborne Books & More at 50% in free books! Please make out monetary gift checks to Ruth Munday and mail to the address listed below so it can be added to count for the match.

FOLLOW THE LINK IN THE BOX and look for "ANN'S HEART FOR BOOKS" when you click “SHOP” or at “CHECK OUT”. You may ship Usborne Books & More purchases directly to the Forrest Spence Fund Office at 3092 Poplar Ave, Suite 15, Memphis, TN 38111. Please see the link below to connect to our Usborne Books & More wish list!
