THIS RECOUNTING OF THE ORIGINS OF THE MONTHLY 'REUNION' LUNCHEON GATHERINGS COMES STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH: IN THE BEGINNING....IT WAS DISCOVERED BY WELDON WILSON THAT SOME MEMBERS OF THE HLHS CLASS OF '57 WERE MEETING EACH MONTH, AND HAD BEEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WHEN HE LEARNED OF THEIR MEETINGS ( AFTER HE HAD BEGUN PUBLISHING THE HORN LAKE EAGLES NEWS IN JANUARY OF 2003) HE CRASHED THEIR PARTY AND ADVERTISED THE EVENT IN THE NEXT EDITION OF THE PAPER. WITH THAT, OTHERS BEGAN TO JOIN IN AND HERE WE ARE TODAY! 'RYANS' WAS CHOSEN AS THE MEETING PLACE AFTER 'PONDER'S' CLOSED FOR A WHILE. AND, THOUGH IT MAY NOT BE ALL THAT IS DESIRED, IT IS A GOOD, CENTRALLY LOCATED PLACE THAT PROVIDES A PRIVATE DINING ROOM FOR THE GROUP. "NEWS BULLETIN!!!!!" WE ARE NOW MEETING AT COUNTRY HOME BUFFETT ON GOODMAN ROAD, DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM RYANS.....FOOD AND SERVICE ARE EXCELLENT...AGAIN WE HAVE OUR OWN MEETING ROOM... |

HARVEY USED TO SAY....THE REST OF THE STORY, REPRINTED FROM THE MARCH 2003 EDITION OF THE PAPER."Carl Davis, Bobby Dever, James Broadway, and Bobby Bourne met to plan their '1957 Class Reunion' at the Olive Garden on Perkins in March 1998. Afterward, Bobby Dever fostered the idea to continue meeting informally on the first Friday of each month for dinner in an attempt to renew old acquaintances and continue friendships of the past. Since then, they have met together with the attendance being as high as 35 folks. Dale's on Stateline was selected in the beginning as the meeting place with Ryans, Magnolia, and Wiley's following. Ponders Restaurant on Nail has been the meeting place for several years.".... |

Theagle is the proper name given to the Horn Lake Eagles News mascot found on the front page of each issue since its beginning in 2003. Indeed, it was a cartoon drawn by our grandson Ryler at my request, to be used as a mascot for the Horn Lake Eagle Scout News. In order to avoid confusion and probably conflict later with the Boy Scouts of America, we decided to drop the Eagle Scout part and changed our name to the Horn Lake Eagles News, which we are today. However, Theagle is still our mascot and continues to do an excellent job for us in reporting the news quickly and concisely. Occasionally there will be a slight error, but Theagle is quick to catch it and even quicker to smooth the choppy waters of contention. After all, the eagle is a bird of honor and integrity and who knows this better than our very own, Theagle, a patriot in his own right. Thanks for your indulgence in this matter of record.
